James Beach has been active in the power industry since 1996, specializing in project development, raising capital, structuring non-recourse and corporate debt financing, and acquisitions and divestitures.
Since founding Blake Street Energy in 2012, he has created and led several project development companies, including Alpine Energy, EnerSmart Storage, and Blake Street Energy Rus (in Russia). Most recently, he led the development efforts and advised Redeux Energy on the development of over 15 front-of-the meter BESS projects in northern California, totaling over 300 MW’s. His work including project and offtake origination, project management, obtaining interconnection and permits, and relationship development with long term asset owners.
During this time, he was also a co-founder and managing partner of EnerSmart Storage, a developer of front-of-the-meter battery energy storage projects, building a portfolio of approximately 200MW in SDG&E territory between 2020-2024. Prior to this, James was a Managing Director at Ascend Analytics, a leading decision analysis and risk management company in the energy industry, where he advised clients on the valuation and optimization of battery storage projects.
He also founded and led a Russian company that processed waste into recyclables and refuse-derived fuel for use in local cement plants. Over the course of his career, James founded and led two additional start-up renewable energy development companies and held roles with two large U.S. Independent Power Producers, where he closed power generation project transactions totaling nearly $5 billion and over 8,000MW. James earned an M.B.A. from Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College, and a B.A. in Russian Studies and B.S. in International Business and Marketing from the University of Colorado at Boulder. James has extensive international experience and is fluent in both Russian and French.
